After you have set up your TRU network password you will have access to the myTRU Student Portal. This portal is home to several other pages/services that will be important for your time as a student at TRU. Some of those pages/services are planning your courses each semester through Degree Works, signing up for courses, paying your tuition, getting your T2202 Tax Forms, receiving your transcripts, and Moodle.

*Please note that there is no way to sign into the myTRU Student Portal from the home page. Once you select what you would like to do you will then be prompted to sign in using your TRU ID (T00######) and network password.

Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that requires the user to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource such as an application, online account, or a VPN.  Rather than just asking for a username and password, MFA requires one or more additional verification factors, which decreases the likelihood of a successful compromise.

*To enroll in MFA please follow Microsoft's instructions on how to Add your Work or School Account to the Microsoft Authenticator App.

Please note that you must set up the Microsoft Authenticator app before logging into your email. For more information please step 5.

Your Student Email is hosted on Office.Outlook.com. You can log into it 24 hours after you have registered and paid for your courses using your Student Email address which is your TRU ID with @mytru.ca at the end of it (T00######@mytru.ca).

*Please note that you will not be able to sign into your Student Email on the Outlook app, only the browser version. If you would like to forward emails from your Student Email to a personal email, please see our Forwarding Student Email Knowledge Base Article.

Degree Works is a web-based degree audit tool that allows students to track their academic progress towards their certificate, diploma or degree completion. Degree Works creates a TRU Program Plan for students that outlines their program requirements.

Moodle is TRU's learning management system. that you can log into using your TRU Credentials (TRU ID and network password) 24 hours after you have registered and paid for your courses. Once logged in you will be able to see all the courses that you have been accepted into that are hosted on Moodle.

*Please note that not all on campus courses are hosted on Moodle.

*Please contact your on-campus course instructor if you do not have access to your course on Moodle. Instructors have full control of their courses.

Microsoft 365 (previously known as Office 365) is a cloud-based subscription service from Microsoft. Aside from Office apps such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Microsoft 365 provides collaborative apps such as OneDrive and Teams. Editing documents, finding files, and collaborating with teachers and fellow students are all made easier with Microsoft 365. See below to find out more about the benefits, all of which are included with your student account.

The GlobalProtect VPN client from Palo Alto Networks can be used to connect to Thompson Rivers University network and provides access to resources as if you were physically connected to the network on campus.  You will need to install the Global Protect VPN client on your laptop to receive remote access.

Please also disconnect from the VPN when not using TRU resources. The server may experience overload issues when too many users are all connected at once.

To connect to the Eduroam network you input your TRU ID and network password. For more detailed instructions please see our "Campus Wi-Fi" Knowledge Base Article.

There are many computer labs all across campus pre-installed with most of the software you need at TRU. For a detailed list of all the computer labs on campus and what software is on them, please see our "Student Computer Labs & Software" Knowledge Base Article.

Remote student lab access allows you to connect to any available computer in one of the computer labs on campus and use it through your personal machine from anywhere you would like. This is helpful as some software that you may use in your courses TRU can't provide to every student but only to the computer labs on campus. This however will change with the introduction of AppsAnywhere (See above) which would allow you to access that software (as long as it's on AppsAnywhere)  on your personal windows machine without connecting to a computer on campus.
