Some Mac users may see the message “Your account doesn’t allow editing on a Mac” when opening Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or other Microsoft 365 apps. When this happens, the apps open in read-only mode and you cannot edit your files. The steps below guide you through fixing this issue and restoring full editing access.
Step 1: Sign Out and Sign Back In
- Open the Accounts tab in the Tools menu.

- Select the account name in the left menu bar and choose the - button at the bottom. Sign out of all accounts if more than one appears.

- Quit the app, reopen it, and re add the account again with your TRU credentials.
- If this does not remedy the issue continue to Step 2
Step 3: Fully Remove and Reinstall Microsoft 365
