Enable "Share Workbook" Button

Newer versions of Excel 365 now hide the Share Workbook Button by default. To restore the button to your Tool Ribbon in Excel, follow the steps on this page. The Share button now connects to OneDrive or Sharepoint instead of the previous sharing method. It is recommended that high-collaboration files are moved to SharePoint, MS Teams, or OneDrive as these platforms offer more features for collaboratively working with files.

Option 1 - Quick Access Toolbar

Open Excel
Click File > Options > Quick Access Toolbar
Enable the toolbar for Quick Access by clicking Show Quick Access Toolbar. You can also set the Quick Access Toolbar to show either above or below your Tool Ribbon
Click on the "Choose commands from:" list and select "All Commands" from the list
Scroll through the list of commands to locate and click on "Share Workbook (Legacy)". Click the "Add >>" button to add the command to the Quick Access Toolbar
Click OK to close the Options Dialogue
"Share Workbook (Legacy)" will now be a tool available on the Quick Access Toolbar

Option 2 - Customize Tool Ribbon

Open Excel
Click File > Options > Customize Ribbon
Click on the "Choose commands from:" list and select "All Commands" from the list
Choose the Tab you want to add the Share Workbook (Legacy) tool to. In the example below, the Review Tab was chosen. Ensure that "Main Tabs" is selected from the "Customize the Ribbon" drop-down list, then click on the Tab you will add the tool to. With the Tab selected, click the New Group button below the list
Clicking the New Group button will create a new tool group in the selected Tool Tab. Click on the new group - by default it will be named something like "New Group (Custom)". Click the Rename button below the list and you can set the name for the Tool Group. Enter your chosen name then click OK to save - you do not need to pick any Symbol in this list as it won't be used by the existing tool.
You will be returned to the Customize the Ribbon dialogue, and will need to add the Share Workbook (Legacy) button to your new group. First, click on your new Tool Group in the right-side list. Next, scroll through the list of commands to locate and click on "Share Workbook (Legacy)". Click the "Add >>" button to add the command to your custom tool group
Click OK at the bottom of the Excel Options dialogue to finalize your new Tool Group
To see and use the Share Workbook (Legacy) tool now that you have added it to your Tool Ribbon, click the Tab Group where you created and added the button. Click on the Share Workbook (Legacy) button to launch the tool.
Click the checkbox for "Use the old shared workbooks feature [...]" to enable these features instead of using any new co-authoring systems. Click OK to save the change.

Proceed to Step # 10 if you need to configure advanced sharing options such as when files update between users
Click the Advanced Tab to set up any other settings as needed and click OK when complete
