Windows Updates

Preparation:

  1. Ensure your computer is connected to the internet.
  2. Plug your computer into a power source if you're using a laptop. This prevents the computer from shutting down during the update process.

Steps to Update Your Windows Computer:

  1. Open Windows Settings:

    • Click on the Start menu (the Windows icon usually found in the bottom left corner of your screen).
    • Search for 'Settings' (represented by a gear icon).
  2. Access Update & Security:

    • In the Settings menu, find and click on 'Windows Update' located in the menu on the left side of the screen.
  3. Check for Updates:

    • In the 'Windows Update' section, click on the arrow to the right of 'Check for updates'.
    • click 'Check online for updates from Microsoft Update'.
    • Your computer will now search for available updates. This process may take a few minutes.
  4. Install Updates:

    • If updates are available, they will be displayed on the screen.
    • They should start installing automatically.
      • If they don't, click 'Download and Install all' or 'Install all' to begin the update process.
    • Note: Some updates may require you to restart your computer. Save any open work before proceeding.
  5. Restart Your Computer (if required):

    • Once the updates are installed, you might be prompted to restart your computer.
    • Click 'Restart now' to complete the installation process.
  6. Check for Additional Updates:

    • After restarting, it's a good practice to check for more updates. Repeat steps 1 to 3 to ensure all updates are installed.
