How to Add Videos to a Moodle Course

Adding a Video to Your Moodle Course

Kaltura is a media platform used for creating, storing, editing, and sharing multimedia content directly in Moodle.

Starting Off:

  • Go to the My Media section after you log into Moodle.

Upload or Record a New Video

Kaltura can be used to upload an existing video file or record and edit a new video. Click "Add New" and select one of the following options:

  1. Media Upload: allows you to upload an existing media file
  2. Express Capture: allows you to quickly record audio and video from your webcam
  3. Kaltura Capture: allows you to record audio, video, and your screen at the same time

Setting Video Details:

  • Once your video is uploaded, you can change the title, add a description, and more.
  • Click Save to save your changes

Sharing the Video in Your Course:

Your video can be shared either as a standalone resource or embedded within any content that uses Moodle's editor (e.g. Text & Media Area, Page, Book).

To share your video as a standalone resource:

  • Toggle on edit mode in the top-right corner
  • Click Add an activity or resource and choose Kaltura Video Resource.

  • Add a name and a description for your video resource.

  • Click the Add Media Button.

To embed your video:

  • While editing a relevant activity or resource (e.g. Text & Media Area, Page, Book, etc.), click the "Embed Kaltura Media" Button

  • A pop-up window will appear. Find your video from the list and click the "Embed" button, which looks like this: </>

The media will now be embedded in the resource. Be sure to save your changes.
