Multifactor Authentication (MFA) using Synced Keys

Synced passkeys provide a convenient and secure MFA option available to the majority of our users. It is especially useful when paired with more than one MFA option allowing you an alternative method of authentication in the event your other methods are unavailable (i.e: you lose or upgrade your smartphone).

Since synced keys are stored in the cloud, they are available to you on any device that can log into that cloud service (ex: Google Cloud, Microsoft Cloud, iCloud). This will allow you to make changes to your Microsoft security settings (My Sign-Ins | Security Info | Microsoft.com) such as re-registering a new smartphone.

Creating a Synced Passkey:

  1. Start your preferred browser where you want your key to be stored (Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Safari, etc). (note --If you want the key installed in multiple browsers (because you frequently use more than one). Repeat these steps starting with launching the browser for each browser you use).

  2. Navigate to your security settings:My Sign-Ins | Security Info | Microsoft.com(https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info)

  3. Select Add sign-in method
