Operating System Requirements

Install Instructions

1. Connect your Computer to the Internet. This is required to authorize your license each time you launch SPSS
    
2. Download the Mac Installation File to your computer's local hard drive from this  Microsoft One Drive Link: SPSS Installer Package
   
   If prompted, sign in with your TRU Microsoft 365 Account Credentials
   EX: (T00999999@mytru.ca and myTRU Password for Students or your @tru.ca Email for Staff & Faculty)
    
3. Double-Click the downloaded Mac Installation File (.pkg) for IBM SPSS Statistics from the location you chose in Step # 2 to open the installer for SPSS
    
4. You may be asked if you are sure you want to open the file. Click Open
    
5. You may be prompted for your Computer Login or Administrator Password. Enter your Password
    
6. In the IBM SPSS Statistics installer window, Click Continue to start the installation process
   
   


7. Read and Accept the terms in the Software License Agreement window and Click Continue to proceed
   
   


8. Acknowledge your Acceptance of the terms in the Software License Agreement by Clicking Agree when prompted
   
   


9. On the Choose Install Folder Window, Select or Create a folder to hold the installation. We strongly recommend that you Choose the default location. Click Continue to proceed to the next step
   
   


10. Click Install
    
    


11. If prompted, Enter your Computer Login or Administrator Password and Click Install Software to proceed
    
    


12. Wait for SPSS to complete installation. This process will take between 1 to 10 minutes depending on the speed of your workstation
    
    


13. The Completion Screen should automatically open the License Authorization Wizard. You can Close the installer window after completing activation by Clicking on Close
    
    
    
    If activation doesn't begin automatically, Close the installer window and Open SPSS from your Application Launcher or Finder Window. Click Launch License Wizard on the Activate IBM SPSS Statistics Prompt that will appear if SPSS is not licensed and Proceed with Licensing SPSS
    
    


14. On the Activation Window Click Next
    
    


15. Select Concurrent User License and Click Next
    
    


16. Type in the License Server: electroshuffle.bc.net for the license manager server name or IP address and Click Next
    
    


17. Licensing will complete and display a status page. Click Finished to close the Licensing Wizard
    
    


18. When you open SPSS, you should be greeted by a page like the first image below. If you see the second image, Click Launch License Wizard on the Activate IBM SPSS Statistics Prompt and Return to Step # 14.
    
    
    
    
    If you are unable to complete activation for SPSS, contact the IT Service Desk for assistance
     

Installing IBM SPSS v29 on macOS 14 (Sonoma)

Products affected:  Statistics 29.0, 29.0.1, and 29.0.1.1

After installation of IBM SPSS on macOS 14 (Sonoma), you may be presented with one of two screens.

How to apply the hot fix: 

1. Close all instances of Statistics 29 Desktop

2.  Navigate to the ../lib subdirectory in the Statistics 29 Desktop installation path (e.g. "/Applications/IBM SPSS Statistics/SPSS Statistics.app/Contents/lib/").  This can be done by right clicking on the SPSS Statics program in the Application list, and selecting "show Package Contents"

3.  Locate the "libplatdep.dylib" file and back it up to a separate folder, such as your Desktop.

4.  Copy the attached "libplatdep.dylib" interim fix file to the 29 installation folder located in step 2.

5.  Make sure the installed files have correct permissions (e.g. chmod 755)

6. Start SPSS Statics program again
