Microsoft Teams: Unable to Use Camera or Microphone (macOS)

Determine Your macOS Version

To check which version of macOS your device is using:

  1. Click the Apple Menu in the top-left corner of your screen.

  2. Select About This Mac.


How to Grant Permissions for Teams

To get the most accurate and up-to-date instructions for granting permissions to Microsoft Teams (Camera, Microphone, Screen Recording, and Accessibility), please refer to Apple’s official guides.

You may need to follow additional sections of the guide, including:

  • Granting Camera and Microphone access

  • Granting Screen Recording permissions

  • Allowing Accessibility access


What to Do:

  1. Click the link above to visit Apple’s official instructions.

  2. Use the menu or search bar on their site if the link doesn’t open the relevant section directly.

  3. Follow the steps outlined to grant Microsoft Teams the necessary permissions.

  4. You may need to Quit and Restart Teams after applying the changes.


Troubleshooting Tips:

  • If you're not prompted for permissions when using Teams, follow the manual steps in Apple’s guide to configure access.

  • Make sure you’ve unlocked the padlock in the Security & Privacy > Privacy tab before making changes.

  • If Teams still isn’t working, try removing and re-adding the app in the relevant permission sections (Camera, Mic, Screen Recording, Accessibility).
