How to access TRU Retiree Employee webmail after June 2, 2023

As part of TRU’s ongoing efforts to improve our email system’s efficiency, security and accessibility, your retiree email account will be moved from Exchange On-Premises to Office 365 on the morning of Friday, June 2, 2023.

After the migration has been completed on June 2, you can access your email by following the instructions below.

Which Credentials Do I Use?

Credentials for signing in are as follows:

Username: Your TRU Retiree email address.  (Example: jsmith@retiree.tru.ca

Password: Your TRU password

If you are unable to log in with your credentials, contact the IT Service Desk or visit the Self Service Password Reset Portal for assistance 

How do I login?

Link to Outlook Web Access

Go to Outlook.office.com and sign in with your TRU Retiree Email address (EX: jsmith@retiree.tru.ca)

During the first time log in process, you will be directed to provide more information for account verification purposes. Click Next if you see this message, then proceed to add a Verification Phone and/or Email Account.

Once you are logged in, you will be presented with your email

Still using https://exwebmail.tru.ca?

This portal will be discontinued in the coming months.  In the meantime, the login process will redirect you the Microsoft365 site to be logged into your Retiree Email

Click on the link to be once you login.  You may be prompted once more for a login on Microsoft's site.

What To Do For "More Information Required"?

Microsoft requires that you add a verification phone number or a secondary e-mail address for account recovery purposes. You will need to verify at least one of these.

If you experience any error messages during this process, please clear your browser cache and cookies. Instructions to clear your cache can be found at https://clear-my-cache.com

When clearing your cache, please be sure to select "All Time" or a similar setting rather than only a shorter time period and ensure that both Cookies and Cached Files are cleared if such options are present. After your Browser Cache & Cookies have been cleared, visit https://outlook.office.com, do not follow saved links or bookmarks you may have.

Can I use the Outlook application to access my Retiree Email?

Currently, retiree email accounts are not licensed through TRU's Microsoft 365 offering for the download of the Outlook Application (mobile or desktop).  If you have the Outlook application with a personal or purchased license, you can connect your TRU Retiree Email address to the application as an additional mailbox.

Can I use the Mail app on my phone or tablet?

Yes!  You will need to remove the existing email connection BEFORE you can access your TRU Retiree Email on your phone or tablet.

The instructions below are for iOS Devices (iPad or iPhone), however, the steps for Android are fairly similar.

  1. Go to Settings > Mail, then tap Accounts.
  2. Tap the exisiting TRU Retiree Email account in the list
  3. Scroll to the bottom of this settings screen and tap "Delete Account"
  4. When prompted to confirm the removal of the account, click on "Delete Account" 
  5. On the Account list screen, Tap Add Account, then select Microsoft Exchange.
  6. Enter your TRU Retiree email address and  "TRU Retiree Email" as the description
  7. If you see Next, tap Next and wait for Mail to verify your account.
  8. When prompted to 'Sign into the "retiree.tru.ca account", tap "Sign in".
  9. Enter your TRU Retiree Email address password at the prompt and tap "Sign In"
    1. on Apple devices, you may be prompted to approve some permissions.  Tap the "Accept" button to continue the verification
  10. When you see Save, tap "Save".
