Trouble with Software Updates on Mac
Sometimes, when you try to update the software on your Mac, you might notice it's stuck on "Finding Updates" or the progress bar doesn't move forward at all.
Here's how to fix the problem:
-
Starting the Fix:
- Use Spotlight Search by pressing the "Command" and "Space" keys at the same time (if you're using Windows through something like TeamViewer, use the "Windows" key and "Space" instead).
- Type "Terminal" and open the terminal.
-
Running the Command:
- In the terminal, type this exactly as shown: sudo rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
- This is a special command that tells your Mac to delete the file where it stores information about updates. Sometimes this file can have old or wrong data that needs to be cleared out.
-
Restart Your Mac:
-
Check for Updates Again:
- Once your Mac starts up and you're logged in, you should see a notification that updates are pending or available. If not, check the Software Updates and it should find and begin updates.
